Experts in inclusion. Powered by lived experience
I recently finished building the website for Disability Consultants (DisCo), a disability inclusion consultancy based in Newcastle, NSW. DisCo is part of Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH), a disability-led organisation run by and for people with disability. CDAH has spent more than a decade shaping policy and pushing for systemic change across the Hunter region.
π Project Overview
DisCo helps organisations go further than ticking compliance boxes. It works with them to build an inclusive culture that lasts, designed together with people who have lived experience of disability. Its clients include local councils, universities, community services, arts organisations and sporting clubs, such as City of Newcastle, Maitland City Council, Port Stephens Council, Lake Macquarie City, the University of Newcastle, Life Without Barriers and the Newcastle Knights.
The website needed to explain DisCo's services clearly, build trust with organisations, and turn visitors into enquiries. Because the business is about inclusion, the site itself had to be accessible.
𧩠Services Showcased
The site has a dedicated page for each of DisCo's core services:
- Consulting & Advice: Practical guidance on making organisations more inclusive.
- Digital Accessibility: Help making websites, documents and digital tools usable for everyone.
- Disability Staff Workshops: Interactive training sessions, including the DARE Workshops.
- Disability Inclusion Strategy Check: A review of an organisation's current approach to inclusion.
- Disability Inclusion Action Plans: Co-designed plans with clear, measurable commitments.
- Disability Leadership: Support for building disability leadership inside organisations.
π οΈ My Contributions
- Accessibility-first build: I used semantic markup, clear heading structure, strong colour contrast, keyboard-friendly navigation and descriptive alt text, so the site practises what DisCo teaches.
- Responsive design: The layout stays clean and consistent on desktop, tablet and mobile.
- Clear service structure: I organised the services into an easy-to-scan section with individual landing pages, so visitors can quickly find what fits their organisation.
- Trust and social proof: Client logos and testimonials show DisCo's track record with well-known Hunter organisations.
- Lead generation: I added prominent calls to action for the free 30-minute consultation, integrated with a HubSpot booking page, plus a newsletter sign-up.
- Content management: The WordPress setup lets the DisCo team update pages, services and team profiles without touching any code.
- Performance & security: I optimised assets, served logos as SVG files, and used Cloudflare for fast, secure delivery.
π Impact
The new website gives DisCo a professional, accessible online presence that reflects its values. Organisations can now understand its services, see who it has worked with, and book a consultation in a few clicks. This helps DisCo grow its work toward a stronger, more inclusive disability community.
